This article reminds me of a saying by Bruce Lee:
<em>"Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless - like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend."</em>
Meditation is able keeping a fluid mind, and letting go of rigid thinking. Thanks!

What exactly is meditation? I close my eyes and think of somebody, something, a place, a problem, or I just feel sleepy - is that Meditation? And does it have to bear the trappings of an Asian (for me alien) culture? In an uncomfortable position (at least would stop one from going asleep). I am depressed, lonely, aged, and disconnected with children, grandchildren and life in general. Lost my husband, lived too long alone in the wilds, moved to London close to my children and grandchildren who are all loving, intelligent, highly occupied and in no need of an old woman who is not very good at small talk. Plunged into London's rich cultural life - but as an outsider, alone. Have no talents to offer. Outsider. Depressed.

Dear Deb,
I want to say that your book, 'Your Body Speaks Your Mind' has so much of insights in them. There is so much of truth in what you have shared in the book and your knowledge of mind and body medicine.
I have spent so much time into research about healing- at first I thought with dietary change and exercise, it can bring health. That worked for a while but after a while, it was not effective. Then I quit my stressful job and went travelling a year and my life change. A lot of problems that I had were gone- and after I came back, I took a paycut in exchange of a better life and to have the positive energy to spent time working on my blogs.

Reading your book provided the missing link for the answers I was searching for. I totally agree with you- illness is not something physical. It's deeper than that. Thank you for sharing the knowledge.

I've been mediating (Metta) for almost two years and it has changed my life dramatically. There is research that demonstrates that meditation reduces the size of the amygdala, which is part of the "primitive" limbic system of the brain where emotional responses (i.e. fear!) are processed. So if you have been in a state of anxiety and fear most of your life, your amygdala is going to rule your life by constantly processing everything in an overreactive way. OMG x 1M. Meditation immediately calms the amygdala, and within 8 weeks reduces the size of this organ.
